[Tám chuyện từ vựng] Nghĩ giàu làm giàu

Nghĩ giàu làm giàu là cuốn sách phát triển bản thân và động lực của Napoleon Hill, ra đời năm 1937. Cuốn sách cung cấp 13 nguyên tắc để giúp mọi người thành công trong công việc cũng như đạt được bất cứ thứ gì mong muốn.

I. Nghĩ giàu làm giàu: Tám chuyện từ vựng

1.         Nói xấu tiền bạc

Nếu bạn không phải người yêu thích money thì 1 số cụm từ có thể giúp bạn diễn tả.

•           Tiền bạc là nguồn gốc mọi vấn đề: Money is the root of all evil.

•           Tiền bạc không mang lại hạnh phúc: Money can't buy you happiness.

•           Tiền bạc làm mọi người điên đảo: Money makes the world go around.

2.         The Great Depression: đại khủng hoảng thế giới

Bạn từng nghe đến ngày thứ 6 đen tối (Black Friday) chưa? Nếu rồi thì bạn nghe đến ngày thứ 3 đen tối (Black Tuesday) chưa?

• Black Friday là ngày 24/9/1869 khi mà thị trường chứng khoán Mỹ giảm giá đột ngột (the stock market plummeted) sau khi những nỗ lực gom vàng của 1 số tay đầu cơ bị thất bại. (Attempt to corner the gold by gold speculators failed).
• Black Tuesday là ngày 29/10/1929- ngày bắt đầu The Great Depression. The Great Depression kéo dài đến năm 1939 rồi sau đó là nguyên nhân dẫn đến ra đời chủ nghĩa Phát xít Đức (German Facism hoặc Nazism mặc dù 2 từ này vẫn có tranh cãi là khác nhau)
• Black Monday là ngày 19/10/1987 khi giá chứng khoán ở Hong Kong giảm mạnh rồi lan sang châu Âu và Mỹ.

3.         non-fiction book

Sách được chia ra 2 loại là fiction (tiểu thuyết hư cấu) và non-fiction. 2 loại này được chia ra thành các loại nhỏ hơn (sub-types hoặc genres). Ví dụ 1 số loại genre nổi tiếng như: cuốn tự thuật My Autobiography của Sir Alex Ferguson (huấn luận viên bóng đá Câu lạc bộ Manchester United từ 1986 đến 2013) hay những cuốn Self-help Nghĩ giàu làm giàu (Think and Grow Rich), 7 thói quen bạn trẻ thành đạt (The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens) hay  những cuốn sách du lịch (Travel book) như Tôi là một con lừa (I am a donkey), Một mình ở châu Âu (Alone in Europe)...

Nhắc đến sách, người đọc hay mua bestseller (những cuốn sách bán chạy nhất) trong đó “The New York Times Best Seller list” là uy tín nhất ở Mỹ. Cụm từ bestseller cho sách còn cho film sẽ dùng blockbuster và cho âm nhạc là chart-topper.

4.         Credit

Credit ở đây dùng với nghĩa động từ "tin tưởng". Câu trong đoạn sắp đọc "He credits the book for much of his financial success".

Trong ngân hàng credit dùng rất nhiều với nghĩa Tín dụng. Các thẻ ngân hàng chia ra 2 loại credit card (thẻ tín dụng) và debit card (thẻ ghi nợ). Credit card là thẻ mà bạn có thể vay tiền ngân hàng trước để thanh toán (dĩ nhiên bạn phải thế chấp gì đó như lương, hay sổ đỏ...). Sẽ có 1 khoảng thời gian ân huệ (grace period- thường là 30 ngày) rồi sau đó tính lãi suất cho khoản nợ nếu bạn không nạp tiền để trả. Điều này gây ra bẫy thẻ tín dụng nhiều người bị (falling into the credit card trap). Còn Debit card là thẻ bạn kết nối trực tiếp với tài khoản của bạn. Bạn tiêu bao nhiêu thì trừ tiền trực tiếp bấy nhiêu nên không lo lãi suất vay như credit card.

5.         Lifelong pursuit: theo đuổi cả đời

Pursuit dùng với nghĩa danh từ “sự theo đuổi” có vài từ nghĩa tương đương như chase/following. Với từ này mình có thể dịch báo Khuyến học là Learning Pursuit hoặc Learning Encouragement Press.

Còn động từ theo đuổi, ta dùng“follow/chase/realize/fullfill/live out...”. Ví dụ: theo đuổi giấc mơ/mục tiêu/đam mê dịch là "live out/pursue... my dream/goal/ambition"

Money.  There are several sayings that warn about money.  “Money is the root of all evil.”  “Money can’t buy you happiness.”  But there is another one – “Money makes the world go round.”  Money may not be the answer to happiness, but it certainly helps to have some.

Later in the show, you will learn words to help you save money.But first, what if you could close your eyes and simply think your way to being rich?  That is just what a famous book from the 1930s promised could be done.  And now, there is a comic book version!

Thinking Your Way to Wealth

Can you think your way to wealth and success? Napoleon Hill believed that, if you think the right thoughts, you can. In 1937, after many years of researching financial success and observing people who had become rich, he published the book “Think and Grow Rich.” Although it was published in the middle of The Great Depression, it was an immediately successful.

It is one of the most-popular non-fiction books ever written. Forbes Magazine says it has sold seventy million copies since it first appeared and continues to sell copies today. Napoleon Hill wrote at least ten other books about success before his death in nineteen seventy.  But none of them came close to selling as many copies as “Think and Grow Rich.”

SmarterComics has released an illustrated version of the book. Franco Arda is the company’s founder and publisher. He used to work as an investment banker.  He started the company three years ago with his own money.  He wanted to create picture books that increase understanding.  His versions provide much of the information that is in full-length books but in an easy-to-understand, picture, or comic, form.

Mr. Arda says readers will understand and remember more about gaining success if they read the comic book version of “Think and Grow Rich.”

“Because it’s illustrated, it’s a comic book style – one, it’s easier to read and, two it’s also easier to remember.”

Mr. Arda says he first read “Think and Grow Rich” when he was a teenager.  He credits the book for much of his financial success. He says it taught him to change the way he thinks about money and success.

“We have to start with your brain first to subconsciously program yourself towards riches that you can imagine, or that you think money and, obviously that you create a plan afterwards.”

Mr. Arda says Napoleon Hill found that you must write down what you want to achieve, how and when you want to achieve it and what you are willing to sacrifice for it. Napoleon Hill said you must read that statement out loud every morning when you wake up and every evening before you go to sleep.

SmarterComics says “Think and Grow Rich” proves that “wealth is a lifelong pursuit achieved by believing in the value of personal ideas.” It says anyone can achieve their dreams by refusing to be stopped by temporary problems.

Vào ngày này, các doanh nghiệp đưa ra các chương trình giảm giá, ưu đãi để kick cầu mua sắm. Bạn cần phải nói ngày mua sắm đặc biệt này cho người yêu biết thông tin.
